New class at the SJCC! Learn magic and life skills in the Seattle Magic Academy’s Discover Magic class. Our mission is to empower children by building communication skills and confidence through the art of magic. All materials are provided, including high-quality, custom magic tricks developed specifically for children, but that will fool adults! Plus, students will receive “secret” file folders, a Seattle Magic Academy messenger bag to hold everything, access to a secret online video vault, magic wand, and more surprises! Instructor Xakary the Magician is the only magician from the Pacific Northwest to ever be voted through by the judges on America’s Got Talent.

This hoppin’ class was created specifically for kids who love to dance! Students focus on the coolest dance moves to hip-hop hits! Participants will learn basic dance skills like keeping rhythm, following choreography, and developing body control all while building self-esteem and confidence in this energetic class!

Youth Theatre Northwest is bringing the drama to the J with their incredible curriculum and professional Teaching Artists. Creative Drama for K-2 is an exercise in guided imagination and storytelling—and this spring we’re feeling magical! Hogwarts castle is full of mysteries and magic to explore, and you never know where the moving staircase will take our adventure! Students will learn the basics of acting, movement, and storytelling. There are characters to meet, problems to solve, and magic adventures awaiting.

Do, or do not, there is no try. So, may the Force be with us as we explore the rich stories of Star Wars to create our own out-of-this-universe story. Chess Wizards is a premier chess education company providing fun, informative, and challenging chess lessons to students. Chess Wizards teaches children many important life concepts, such as learning the ability to win graciously and accept defeat with dignity and sportsmanship. Students will be divided into groups according to their chess experience. At the end of this session, each student will have had the chance to participate in a mini chess tournament.

STEAM Maker: Interactive Candy Commerical

You just can’t stop your children from dreaming up the most delicious candy treat at home. Why not have them write, draw, and create that original flavor in a fun and imaginary filled STEAM maker program using recycled materials. We will try to sell these original candies on Interactive Stage with music and dances by these candy characters. Please note, we won’t be eating a lot of candies, but there might be some tasting.

STEAM Maker: Space Travel Puppet Show

Do you have a child who can’t get enough of tinkering and making? This Interactive Stage STEAM program leverages the science and technology of theater art to inspire students to work collaboratively in a non-directive format and to allow their creativity and curiosity to spark their learning. This quarter, we will get festive with a carnival float parade theme. Students will be exposed to engineering Design Process and structural engineering, magnets, electromagnetic and motors, programming robots to dance on the float using color sensors, and shoebox size parade float prop making.

Creative Art Network: Sci-Fi Art

If you travelled to another planet in the future, what creatures, architecture, vehicles, and inventions would you discover?  Learn skills in drawing 2d and 3D, shading, and texturing, while creating unique worlds with traditional art supplies (pen, colored pencil, and marker).
