Update – 3/4/2020: the Mercer Island City Council meeting to discuss our text code amendment will be postponed. Please check back for updates.
Mercer Island residents, we need your help!
As the SJCC looks to redevelop the facility, the design will be largely informed by the building regulations that govern the SJCC property. Due to a variety of zoning issues over the past 50 years and an inconclusive discussion at the City for the last 2 ½ years, the path remains unclear. Please help resolve this by asking the City of Mercer Island to spend time working through this issue NOW. Simply do at least one of the following:
- Show up at the City Council meeting on March 10 @ 6:30 pm at Mercer Island City Hall.
- Send an email to the Mercer Island City Council this week asking the Council to make time now to review and vote on our recently submitted text code amendment. A sample email can be found below; please feel free to personalize it.
You can find a detailed letter explaining the issue here. Please email info@sjcc.org with questions.
THANK YOU for taking the time to advance this effort!

As a friend and supporter of the J, it has been hard to watch the delay they have faced these last few years in trying to potentially redevelop their 50-year-old facilities. I understand the city has the opportunity to use existing zoning tools to allow facilities like the SJCC to propose redevelopment options. A new, limited and reasonable zoning approach has been identified. My request: Do not table or delay council action. Authorize your staff to review potential zoning changes.
Thank you,
