CHEF TALK + TASTING | PBS star Pati Jinich, “Foods of La Frontera” Cookbook Event
Fresh off winning two 2026 James Beard Media Awards for her longtime PBS TV shows “Pati’s Mexican Table” and “La Frontera with Pati Jinich,” her induction into the Broadcast Media Hall of Fame and two Daytime Emmy nominations, chef, TV host and New York Times bestselling cookbook author Pati Jinich joins us for an unforgettable evening discussing and tasting recipes from her latest cookbook, “Foods of La Frontera: Recipes and New Taste Frontiers from Both Sides of the Border.”
In addition to exploring her own Jewish-Mexican roots, border stories and family recipes, Jinich shares segments from her new PBS primetime docuseries “PanAmericana” about the crypto or “hidden” Jews of Albuquerque, New Mexico, with whom she helped prepare a communal Shabbat dinner drawn from Sephardic traditions.
Jinich’s Jewish identity has been shaped in large part by how her grandmothers wove their Jewish heritage from the countries they came from with their new home in Mexico and the idea that identity is something people carry, adapt and express through everyday life, especially through food. So now, as a Jewish-Mexican woman living in the United States, Jinich finds herself continuing to weave those identities together in a vibrant, ever-changing and evolving way. For her, Judaism is deeply tied to family, memory and the act of gathering and Mexico gave her a sense of flavor, warmth and creativity. The United States has given Jinich a place to share those stories and connections broadly. These identities are not separate—they enrich one another and shape how Jinich cooks, tells stories and how she understands border cultures and where she comes from.
