An Update on J Camp & New Summer Offering

As we’re fast approaching a summer unlike any other, we want to share an update on our plans.

We are moving full-steam ahead to create a fun-filled summer for your kids and we’re calling it J-Cation! This will replace all previously scheduled J Camp sessions. However, just like those, it will continue to include days full of fun, friendship, and fast-paced activity!

Our goal is to open J-Cation just as soon as it’s safe to do so, and that depends on Washington State’s Safe Reopening plan. Our current plan is to open during Phase 3. This phase allows for groups of up to 50 to congregate and we believe this is the right time to open J-Cation.

Similar to our traditional Camp Kef, at J-Cation, your kids will enjoy outdoor activities, swimming, arts and crafts, music, and more. J-Cation will be a singular camp experience, which allows us to address many of the factors in reducing the spread of COVID-19, most notably, increasing physical distance between groups and limiting the number of people coming in and out of camp throughout the week. For these same reasons, there will be no extended care or bus transportation this summer.

We hope many of you will choose to roll your J Camp registration over to J-Cation, and we will send details about how to do that in the coming days. If you prefer to make other arrangements, you can convert your deposit to a tax-deductible donation or cancel your registration completely without penalty up to seven (7) days before the start of your camp week. Fees paid for transportation and extended care may be credited to your balance or completely refunded.

In addition to J-Cation, we are also excited to announce a virtual J-Cation offering. Details are coming soon!

Given this summer will be a bit different, we want to answer a few questions right now and we welcome more—just email davef@sjcc.org.

What new safety protocols will be in place?
Safety is always our top priority at J Camp. We are working with the Jewish Community Center Association (JCCA), and the Centers for Disease Control (CDC), along with state and local Public Health advisors who are providing guidelines and advice for day camps. Many new protocols will be put in place, including:

  • Increased physical distancing measures, which are intended to keep groups separate from one another
  • Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) where required in accordance with state recommendations
  • Enhanced handwashing and sanitation procedures for staff and campers
  • Enhanced cleaning/sanitizing of high-touch areas
  • Daily health screening for staff and campers upon entry
  • Contactless pick-up/drop-off and strict “no-sharing” policies

We will provide a more extensive list of our new safety protocols and procedures in the coming days.

We know you may still have a lot of questions about what the summer holds. We will post an FAQ on our website in the coming days and we will continue to share information in the coming weeks. In the meantime, please feel free to reach out to us at any time.

Get ready for all the fun we have planned for your kids at J-Cation! I know I can’t wait!
