Thank You: A Labor of Love

Every Sunday this summer at the Mercer Island Farmers Market, there was a labor love taking place to benefit the Byrd Barr Food Bank. And a big THANK YOU goes out to all who made it happen.

From July to September, the Stroum Jewish Community Center’s Mitzvah Corps ushered 950 pounds of fresh and organic produce to the Byrd Barr Food Bank. And it all happened because so many across the community came together every Sunday.

From the farmers who donated their gorgeous produce to the Mercer Island Farmers Market staff who gathered the produce from each farm to the SJCC Mitzvah Corps volunteers (shout out to superstar Samantha Weiss!) who collected and transported it to the SJCC to the SJCC staff who brought it to the Byrd Barr Food Bank and then the Byrd Barr staff who distributed it to the folks in need – this project truly was a labor of love!

Hundreds of people came together over this past summer to donate their time and energy to ensure that our community was fed. It’s projects and partnerships like these that remind us why mitzvah matters – how we are all a small piece of the puzzle and can contribute to the greater good and make a huge difference in people’s lives.

An extra big thank you to the farms who really made it all possible: Alvarez Organic Farms, Oxbow, Martin Family Orchard, Skagit Sun Berries, Hayton Farms, SnoValley Gardens, J&E Produce, AG Family Farmers, Our Family Farm, and Sidhu Farms.
