Summer J Camp One of the Best

ACA-Accredited Summer J Camp named one of the nation’s best.

Mercer Island, WA โ€“ Summer J Camp, a program of the Stroum Jewish Community Center, is an American Camp Associationยฎย (ACA) ACA-Accreditedยฎย Camp.

“ACA accreditation means that J Camp submitted to a thorough review (up to 266 standards) of its operation by the American Camp Association (ACA) โ€” from staff qualifications and training to emergency management โ€” and complied with the highest standards in the industry,” said Tom Rosenberg, President/CEO, ACA.

“Parents expect their children to attend accredited schools. They also deserve a camp experience that is reviewed and accredited by an independent organization,” Rosenberg said.

โ€œJ Camp and ACA form a partnership that promotes summers of growth and fun in an environment committed to safety,” said J Camp Director Aliza Glatter. “ACA accreditation demonstrates our commitment to quality camp programming that aligns with the SJCCโ€™s values and creates amazing summer memories for kids.โ€

J Camp is also one of โ€œAmerica’s Best Summer Camps 2023โ€ by Newsweek. In a survey of more than 12,000 summer camps across the U.S, J Camp was named in the top four percent. J Camp set new records in 2023 with more than 1,200 campers attending 50 camps over nine weeks. J Camp also hired its first dedicated mental health professional, thanks to an initiative from Foundation for Jewish Camp to enhance the mental, emotional, social, and spiritual health (MESSH) of the camp community.

J Camp has been a defining summer experience for thousands of kids over the past five decades. Each summer features dozens of day camp options including traditional age-based camps for pre-k through 8th graders, a Counselor-in-Training program for 9th and 10th graders, job opportunities for teens and young adults, and specialty camps focused on STEAM/STEM, sports, art, theater, and more. J Camp provides a camp experience all year long through Schoolโ€™s Out J Camps during school breaks. For more information, parents can contact the J Camp team at camp@sjcc.org or click here.

ACA is the only independent accrediting organization reviewing camp operations in the country. ACA’s nationally recognized standards program focuses primarily on the program quality, health and safety aspects of a camp’s operation. ACA collaborates with experts from the American Academy of Pediatrics, the American Red Cross, and other youth-serving agencies to ensure that current practices at the camp reflect the most up-to-date, research-based standards in camp operation.
