About the Instructor:

Nikki Furlong is a self-taught paper artist and owner of Simply Quilled Designs. As a lifelong crafter and artist, she gained many of her skills through years of experimentation and exploration. She works primarily with paper, using cut strips to create her work. This technique is known as quilling; a decorative art form popular during the Renaissance period. When Nikki discovered paper quilling in early 2000, she was immediately drawn to the medium for its versatility, which allowed her to utilize her art and craft background.

Nikki grew up in a small town in Minnesota and now lives in Bellingham, WA. The Pacific Northwest has been an inspiration for her work; nature being a constant theme that is present in her series of trees, plants and flowers.

Her artwork has been exhibited at the Jansen Art Center in Lynden, WA, Studio 103 in Seattle, WA, Edmonds Arts Festival in Edmonds, WA and Schack Art Center in Everett, WA. In addition to creating, she has taught paper quilling classes and was a visiting artist teacher for a nonprofit organization in the Caribbean that teaches and preserves traditional art and craft forms.
