SJCC Book Club

Join us as we launch a new SJCC Book Club, a space for thoughtful reading, meaningful discussion, and connection across our SJCC community.
Our first selection is โHostage,โ by Eli Sharabi, a powerful memoir by an Israeli man who spent 491 days in Hamas captivity in Gaza after being abducted from Kibbutz Beโeri during the October 7, 2023, attacks. In this raw, personal account, Sharabi describes the physical deprivation, psychological terror, and emotional devastation of captivityโalongside moments of courage, faith, and resilience. His book has become a bestseller in Israel and internationally, and is one of the first full-length memoirs by a released hostage from this war.
Please note: Participants will need to purchase their own copy of the book. We recommend finishing the book before our meeting so you can fully join the discussion!
Content Note: This book includes descriptions of violence, captivity, and bereavement. We will hold space gently and invite participants to care for themselves as needed (stepping out, skipping certain sections, etc.).
