Israel at 75

The SJCC is venturing into a months-long celebration of Israel’s 75th birthday through the films, flavors, colors, culture, promise, and zest for life that is Israel! This year’s festivities began in March with the Seattle Jewish Film Festival highlighting seven Israeli films in an Israel@75 series and this month continued with a conversation about pioneering medical science coming out of the country. Take a look at some upcoming activities we have planned, and check back often for ways to celebrate, engage, and learn about Israel.

  • May – Wishes + Gratitude for Israel Exhibit: As Israel celebrates its milestone 75th birthday this year, we invite you to contribute to our community art exhibit. When visiting the Western Wall in Jerusalem, people often tuck prayers, hopes, and gratitudes into the crevices. Inspired by this, we invite everyone to submit reflections on Israel in 2023 or wishes for the years to come. We’ll assemble and display these in the SJCC lobby as a community art project, using the power of art to spur a conversation about an often-complicated topic. Submit your sentiment here or stop by to write it down and help us hang it up!
  • May 21 – Seattle Z3: Relating to Israel@75: A community-building event of learning, dialogue, and speakers. Gain tools to drive curious, caring, and constructive conversations about Israel and North American Jewry as two centers of thriving Jewish life.
  • June 4 – Get Groovy with Gaga Israeli Dance-Fitness Class: Experience this uniquely Israeli movement class, originating from Tel Aviv’s Batsheva Dance Company. Connect to your joy and passion to move. Ages 16+ welcome. More information coming soon.
  • September 10 – Gaga Tournament: Jump into our first-ever family & friends Gaga tournament! This dodgeball-like game is a summer camp favorite. More information coming soon.
