To maximize your teen’s safety and proficiency in the weight room, the J is introducing a new Fitness Center policy that will restrict 13-15-year-olds from using free weights until they have completed the Teens on Weights program or submitted a waiver signed by a coach or trainer. Once certified to use free weights, teens will be issued a lanyard to wear while using the Fitness Center.Â
The Teens on Weights program introduces 13, 14 and 15-year-olds to the fundamentals of weight lifting. Teens will learn how to build safe and effective weight lifting routines that are appropriate for their ability and help them reach their goals faster. Â
The program is led by a SJCC certified personal trainer and will cover proper form and technique for key compound exercises including squats, deadlifts, bench presses, overhead presses and more. Sessions will focus on proper form and full range of motion, setting teens up for a lifetime of muscular growth, maximum flexibility and significantly reduced risk of injury. Â
