Full Film Details:
In 1618, the entire population of Oporto, Portugal was exhorted to denounce heresies under pain of ex-communication. In a city where a large part of the population had Jewish ancestry, over a hundred Conversos were imprisoned, causing terror, mass emigration, and the near-total destruction of the city’s economy. As friction between Porto’s judicial authorities, who had always been on good terms with the “New Christians,” and the inquisitorial visitation reached a fever pitch, and with his family and community in danger, António Álvares, decides to outline an escape plan. This historical period drama is based on a true story.
