Full Film Details:
At a godforsaken summer training camp, rising swimming star Erez competes with other young athletes to qualify for the Olympics while also coming to terms with his sexuality. His drive to win is threatened by his burgeoning desires and the discriminatory, macho sports world that surrounds him. During training, he meets the beautiful and talented Nevo, who awakens subconscious desires. However, their swimming coach does not believe in friendship between competitors. Despite the coach’s warnings to stay away from Nevo, Erez realizes that winning a medal may be less important than winning Nevo’s heart. Based on director Adam Kalderon’s own experiences as a professional swimmer on the Israeli national team, THE SWIMMER is dedicated “to a silent, disempowered, and hidden populace–gay athletes.”
Adam Kalderon lives and works in Tel Aviv as a director, screenwriter, costume designer, art director, and a video & sound artist. In 2013, he was nominated for two Israeli Academy Awards (Ophirs) for Best Art Director and Best Costume Designer for the film SIX ACTS. THE SWIMMER is Kalderon’s second feature film. View on IMDB.
