Kef

K-5th grade

“Kef”means fun in Hebrew, and that’s exactly the kind of summer you’ll have! Active group games, energetic song circles, messy science experiments, and creative art projects. Plus just for Kef: you pick electives (called chuggim), so you can focus on your favorite things—or try something new!

We group kids according to grade, so activities are age-appropriate. We all come together for field trips and other activities during the week.

Magniv

K-5th grade

Experience camp through the lens of Israel and Israeli culture. Not only will you enjoy our traditional camp programs, your counselors―all native Hebrew speakers―lead you on explorations of the art, food, and atmosphere of Israel, all in Hebrew.

The majority of this camp will be conducted in Hebrew, and almost all of the participants are native Hebrew speakers. This camp is best-suited to kids who already speak Hebrew fluently.

Sports

An action-packed camp for athletes of all kinds. Through scrimmages and drills that emphasize sportsmanship and teamwork, you’ll fine-tune your skills and learn new sports (like baseball, football, and lacrosse), so there’s something for every skill level.

We group kids according to grades, so all activities are age-appropriate. Each afternoon, we play an all-sports camp game, which brings all ages together to play traditional camp games like capture the flag and kickball.

Performing Arts Camp

1st-8th grade
June 25-August 24, three-week sessions
Member $780, guest $880
Love to dance, sing, and act? Then this is the camp for you! Express yourself, hone theater skills, and problem solve as you create a show for friends, families, and campers. Play imaginative theater games, explore new dance styles, sing showtunes, and get more com-fortable performing on stage.

Offstage, you’ll swim, enjoy boating and archery, take weekly field trips, and more. Make this summer your moment to shine!

X Camp

Xploration + Xtreme sports=Xcitement! Get ready to skydive indoors and take a shot at paintball. Head out on adventures like paddle 
boarding, hiking, Ultimate Frisbee, trips to the beach, parkour, sports, climbing, and so much more. Make new friends in an active 
outdoor setting, all while building self-confidence and social skills.

WARNING: Once you’ve experienced X Camp, regular life may seem unfulfilling and boring. Leave your fears and inhibitions at home and join us for the first summer of the rest of your life.

Do you have a curious and artistic eye? Join us for this introduction to photography. We’ll take field trips to visually stunning locations around Mercer Island, focusing on framing, lighting, and composition. Bring your own digital camera or ready-to-load film camera and film to camp each day.

Eager Entrepreneurs - FULL

Love creating art, and ready to share it with the world? With inspiration from Etsy, we’ll create art, learn how to merchandise our products, and design a logo for our new company. At the end of camp, we’ll set up a store to sell our artwork, and pick a cause to receive some of our company’s profits. We’ll also learn the business of art from artist entrepreneurs who will share their stories with us.

Minecraft Mania - FULL

Control your world with command blocks and redstone as you create, explore, and put your problem-solving skills to the test by building an adventure map and resource packs at this tech-focused camp. Many schools—even universities—use the Minecraft platform to help with reading, writing, math, and science. You’ll learn critical skills while having a blast.

Art of the Garden - FULL

The J’s Kesher Community Garden is in full bloom in the summer—perfect inspiration for beautiful art. We’ll learn to draw flowers in the style of Georgia O’Keeffe and create artistic mosaics and garden stakes for our own gardens. We’ll also plant and grow our own flowers in beautiful pots we decorate.

Let Them Eat Cake - FULL

July 9 – July 13

Chefs, open your secret envelopes; inside you’ll find today’s cake challenge. You’ll work in teams to bake and decorate the most amazing cakes. Guest judges will determine winners and the cakes will be on display for parents to see. Learn piping techniques, fondant creations, and how to make buttercream frosting from scratch. Yum!

Around the World - FULL

July 16 – July 20

Travel the world without leaving the J! Explore all corners of world cuisine, cooking up great dishes along the way. Middle Eastern delicacies, African spices, pan-Asian treats, and good ol’ American eats. Bring your appetite!

Harry Potter Film School - FULL

Are you a Gryffindor, Hufflepuff, Slytherin, or Ravenclaw? Get sorted into one of the Hogwarts houses and then work together to turn our camp into this famous wizarding school. We’ll design wands, robes, and broomsticks, then we’ll create a short film of our magical adventures that we’ll screen at Friday’s all-camp Shabbat.

DIY Body Shop

Combine art and science to create bath bombs, soap scrubs, bath salts, and lip gloss, complete with packaging and labels. Great for young scientists and entrepreneurs alike!

Pokemon Plus - FULL

Go from Pokémon whiz kid to Pokémon maker! We’ll design our own characters and bring them to life in 3D models and on unique Pokémon cards that we can trade with each other. Time to become a real Pokémon master!

Curating Your Family Story

July 30 – August 3

Become an anthropologist as you learn about your family’s past. We’ll explore the histories and cultures of our ancestors and design a large map of their journeys. We’ll create a beautiful family tree of all our campers’ families plus individual artworks showcasing each family. In partnership with Bet Hatefutsot and The Covenant Foundation.*

Young Physicians

July 30 – August 3

Interested in becoming a doctor? Get a head start on a career in medicine. Make a cast, learn how to check vital signs, and try your hand at suturing. Compare your bones to those in a cow’s leg and your tendons to a chicken’s. Do a DNA extraction and learn how to do a dissection from older Dissection Lab campers!

Cooking Up Science

August 6 – August 10

Sharpen your skills as you learn the basic science of the culinary world. Learn how to make a tortilla. Challenge your creativity as you choose ingredients for your own smoothie, and experiment to find the perfect way to cook an egg. Look at different artistic ways to plate your food, and get inspiration from cultures all around the world. Bon appétit!

Spanish: Cooking Around Latin America - CANCELLED

Join us as we learn about the traditional ingredients of Latin American cooking. Build listening and speaking skills, develop language-learning strategies, and broaden your understanding by using Spanish in a fun context, playing games, doing art and crafts, and more.

Let the races begin! Each summer, dragon boat races and festivals are hosted in China and Chinese-speaking communities around the world. Learn to speak Mandarin as we taste delicious dumplings and play games—it’s a grand celebration!

Young Entrepreneurs

August 13 – August 17

Calling all future CEOs! Experience first-hand the challenges and triumphs of starting and managing a business. Use creative problem-solving, product testing, and team building to run a lemonade stand for a day. Once you’ve experimented to find your perfect recipe, you will develop a business plan to present to a panel of potential investors. Develop a budget, set goals, and recognize opportunities in this rare look into a startup company.

Duct Tape Challenge

August 20 – August 24

Can duct tape really fix everything? Complete engineering challenges that investigate its strength and durability. Use duct tape to design a messenger bag and other three-dimensional works of art. Discover how this tape impacted Apollo 13, and conduct experiments to get
out of some sticky situations. Grab a roll and learn why duct tape may actually be able to fix everything!

Japanese: Celebrations in Japan - CANCELLED

Learn how to introduce yourself in Japanese, and how to talk about activities, weather, and so much more—all in the context of Japanese
