Group Fitness at the J

While the SJCC’s building is closed during the COVID-19 pandemic, our group fitness classes have moved online! Zumba, yoga, boot camp, senior chair fitness, and more — all from the comfort of your home.

Have fun and get fit at the J. Group exercise classes are free to all SJCC members age 13 and older (unless otherwise noted). Guest rates are $15 per class. There is no need to register for fitness classes unless specified. Classes require a minimum of 7 participants on a regular basis to continue. We also offer a variety classes geared specifically toward seniors.

Aquatic Sport

Mondays and Wednesdays | 9-10 am

Advanced Aquatic Sport
Fridays | 9-10 am

This heart-pumping workout in the pool exercises your entire body with no added impact on your joints. 

Boot Camp

Tuesdays | 9:45-10:45 am
Tuesdays | 6:30-7:30 pm
This workout is fun and energetic. Work at your own pace with modifiable exercises that challenge your cardiovascular system and muscle strength. Intermediate to advanced.

Boot Camp Express

Saturdays | 10:30-11:15 am
The same great format as our traditional boot camp class, but in a short 45 minutes! Work at your own pace with modifiable exercises that challenge your cardiovascular system and muscle strength. Intermediate to advanced.

Cardio Sculpt

Mondays | 8:30-9:30 am
This class incorporates high/low intensity intervals and step aerobics with dynamic conditioning.

Advanced Circuit Strength

Fridays | 9:45 am
Utilizes additional equipment and complex movements to take fitness to the next level (Advanced class held in the MSC room).


Tuesdays and Thursdays | 6-7 am
Sundays | 9-10 am

Cycling is a great way to burn calories and have fun. New riders, please arrive early to set up your bike. All levels.

Dynamic Yoga

Wednesdays | 6-7 am
Challenging workout with basic yoga postures performed with intensity. Bring your mat.

Endurance Ride+

Saturdays | 9-10:15 am
High energy fun ride plus conditioning at the end of class. Bring a water bottle.

High Intensity Interval Training (HIIT)

Mondays and Wednesdays | 9:45-10:45 am
High intensity intervals designed for maximum benefits to aerobic and anaerobic systems. Intermediate to advanced.

Master Swim

Mondays, Wednesdays | 6 am
Fridays | 10:15-11:15 am
Swim workouts that focus on stroke technique, endurance, and overall swim fitness. Prerequisite: All participants must be able to swim at least 100 yards crawl stroke and have basic knowledge of back stroke and breast stroke.

Meditation/Chi Kung

Thursdays | 9:45-10:30 am

Lean to relax the busy-ness away and also receive a little energy boost in this blended meditation and Chi Kung class. Explore and practice simple meditation techniques that will help you relax your body and your mind. This class includes meditative movements, known as Chi Kung. Leave class feeling a deeper sense of inner peace and well-being. Free for SJCC members; guests $15.

Instructor Rebecca Gould is a women’s holistic health & empowerment coach, spiritual advisor, certified holistic health practitioner, and qigong & meditation teacher. Rebecca has nearly twenty years of experience with energywork and has been a certified qigong and meditation teacher since 2008, practicing since 2006. Rebecca is a Mercer Island native who now lives in Seattle. Teaching qigong and meditation is one of her greatest passions, and students appreciate her simple yet detailed instruction, soothing voice, and calm, joyful demeanor.

This basic level mat session is designed to lengthen and strengthen your entire body using core muscles. Based on the teachings of Joseph Pilates, this class will help you gain postural alignment, balance, and flexibility. Bring your mat.


Fridays| 8:30-9:30 am 

Pi-Yo is a class that combines Pilates mat exercises with yoga postures to build core strength and enhance agility and balance. Bring your mat. Intermediate to advanced.

Rock Steady Boxing

Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays | 11 am-noon
A dynamic class designed for people diagnosed with Parkinson’s to actively combat the symptoms of this disease. The class includes boxing, strength training, agility, balance, fine motor skills, and flexibility for a fun, high energy, and creative workout.

Instructor Susie Rosenstein has been a personal trainer since 2012 and is a certified Rock Steady Boxing coach. Pre-class assessment is required; email instructor Susie Rosenstein or call 206-321-4692.

Step and Strength

Step aerobics choreography is combined with weight conditioning to tone and shape your body. Intermediate to advanced.

Strong by Zumba

6-7 am

Stop counting the reps. Start training to the beat. STRONG by Zumba® combines body weight, muscle conditioning, cardio and plyometric training moves synced to original music that has been specifically designed to match every single move. Every squat, every lunge, every burpee is driven by the music, helping you make it to that last rep, and maybe even five more.

In each class, you’ll burn calories while toning arms, legs, abs and glutes. Plyometric or explosive moves like high knees, burpees, and jumping jacks are interchanged with isometric moves like lunges, squats, and kickboxing. STRONG by Zumba® instructors change up the music and moves frequently to make sure you’re always challenged to the max.

Tai Chi

Fridays | 11 am-noon
Tai Chi is a series of movements aimed to address the body and mind as an interconnected system. Mental and physical health benefits include improved posture, balance, flexibility, and strength. All levels.

Total Body Conditioning (TBC)

Tuesdays| 7:15-8:15 am | 8:30-9:30 am
Thursdays | 7:15-8:15 am | 8:30-9:30 am

Functional movements and correct body alignment are used to tone and strengthen the body. All levels.

Ultimate Conditioning/Advanced UC

Ultimate Conditioning
Mondays | 6-7 am
Friday | 6-7 am

Intense body conditioning with focus on stability, strength, power conditioning, and flexibility. Tuesday class incorporates TRX suspension strength training. Intermediate to advanced.

Advanced Ultimate Conditioning
Thursdays, 6:30-7:30 pm

Fridays, 9:45-10:45 am
Uses advanced movements and equipment such as barbells, kettlebells, battle ropes, box jumps, tire flips. (Classes in the MSC room and/or Ex. Studio)

Gentle Flow Yoga

Tuesdays | 6:30-7:30 pm
Sun salutations, slower-paced flowing poses, balance work, and mindful breathing to promote both wellness and fitness. Bring your mat. All levels.

Yoga Core Sculpt

Thursdays | 6:30-7:30 pm
Athletic, vinyasa-style yoga designed to create a full mind-body workout, utilizing core yoga postures to increase strength, balance, and flexibility. Bring your mat. All levels.

Yoga Fusion

Fridays | 9:45-10:45 am
Mind/body centered yoga class that incorporates basic postures with mindful breathing. Basic familiarity with yoga is helpful. Bring your mat. All levels.

Yoga - Hatha

Mondays | 8:45-10 am
Learn and perfect poses to build flexibility, strength, balance, awareness of breath, and focus. Bring your mat. All levels.
