DESCRIPTION:Since 2005\, J-Serve has provided teens with the opportunity to engage in meaningful service while embodying core Jewish values\, including gemilut chasadim (acts of loving kindness)\, tzedakah (just and charitable giving)\, and tikkun olam (the responsibility to repair the world). \nThis year\, Seattle-area teens will come together for hands-on service projects that address important community needs. Whether you’re packing birthday bags for children experiencing homelessness\, cooking meals for teens facing housing insecurity\, providing companionship and support to individuals with disabilities or elderly adults\, or participating in environmental projects\, your service will truly make a difference. \nService Site Descriptions \nFriendship Circle\nHelping children\, teens\, and young adults with disabilities through inclusive programming and activities. \nKline Galland – The Summit (Senior Living)\nSpend quality time with residents in downtown Seattle\, providing companionship\, conversation\, and support. \nCooking for YouthCare\nHelp prepare a full meal for 40 teens and young adults experiencing homelessness.\nCooking experience preferred — come excited to cook! \nBirthday Dreams\nCreate party hats\, goodie bags\, and bracelet crafts for children’s birthday celebrations.\nBirthday Dreams is a nonprofit dedicated to bringing hope\, joy\, and a sense of self-worth to children experiencing homelessness through the gift of a birthday party. \nSJCC Environmental Community Restoration\nHelp preserve and beautify meaningful community spaces across the SJCC campus\, including the outdoor Holocaust Memorial\, Kesher Garden\, and other shared gathering areas. Through hands-on environmental work\, teens will actively restore and care for places that hold memory\, connection\, and community pride. \n \nJ-Serve 2026: Greater Seattle Schedule\n12:15 -12:25 PM – Bus pickups in North Seattle\n1:00 PM – All teens arrive at the SJCC & Opening Ceremony\n1:30 PM – Teens depart by bus to service sites (sack lunch provided)\n2:00 PM – Arrival at service sites\n2:00–3:30 PM – Service projects at designated locations\n3:30 PM – Transportation by bus to celebration location\n4:00–5:30 PM – Closing celebration will include arcade time\, community reflection\, treats\, music and more at designated location \nTeens who took the North Seattle Bus will return to North Seattle Bus Pick Up location at 6pm.\nAll other teens can be picked up at 5:45pm at the SJCC Main parking lot. \n\nSpecial Program for 6th & 7th Graders: \nIn conjunction with J-Serve\, we are offering a special service program just for 6th & 7th graders at Temple De Hirsch Sinai – Bellevue Campus. \n🕓 Time: 4:00–5:30 PM\n👥 Led by: Tzofim (Israeli Scouts) \nParticipants will support the Polack Food Bank at Jewish Family Service of Seattle through: \n-A food insecurity simulation \n-A bulk food bagging service project \nTo attend\, please email Keren Oren at keren.h.oren@gmail.com to confirm your spot. \nNote: This is NOT the full J-Serve event—it is an additional program specifically for 6th & 7th graders. \n\nJ-Serve is a collaborative effort made possible by an incredible group of youth-serving organizations\, including SJCC\, BBYO\, USY at Herzl–Ner Tamid and Congregation Beth Shalom\, NFTY at Temple De-Hirsh Sinai\, and Tzofim Israeli Scouts. DESCRIPTION:Join us for evenings of swimming\, friendly competition and summer fun! Watch our Pre-Competitive and Recreational Swim Team swimmers race in a mock swim meet from 5–6 pm. Then stay for a Summer Splash Relay Party featuring water games\, team challenges\, floatie relays\, snacks and more from 6–6:45 pm. \nFamily and friends are encouraged to cheer from the pool deck\, and open swim space will be available throughout the event. SUMMARY:Menorah Making Contest
DESCRIPTION:Calling all creatives! The J is hosting a menorah making contest for Hanukkah and we’re inviting you to create a homemade\, unique menorah for our lobby display. \nAll artists must be over the age of 6 to participate. \nIf you intend to submit a menorah\, reserve your spot by clicking the blue button below. \nRules + Guidelines:\n1. Your menorah needs eight candles\, plus one more candle set apart from the others as the shamash (helper candle).\n2. Your menorah needs to be made with materials you find at home.\n3. Your menorah dimensions should not be more than one foot high and one foot wide.\n4. You must include a short statement sharing the inspiration/theme of your menorah upon submission.\n5. You must drop off your submission at the SJCC by 5 pm on December 3. Late submissions will not be accepted. \n \nEntries will be displayed in our SJCC lobby and open for voting December 3 -11. Vote for your favorite! \nWinning menorahs will be announced and featured on the SJCC website.
