Virtual SJCC: Mussar in a Time of Crisis with Dr. Alan Morinis

Dr. Alan Morinis, founder and director of the Mussar Institute and author of “Everyday Holiness,” shares his spiritual perspectives on the current pandemic in this interactive Zoom class. He emphasizes practical things we can do to confront the challenges before us and lessons we can learn from Jewish history. Mussar is a 1,100-year-old authentic Jewish personal and communal spiritual tradition that was nearly lost during the Holocaust. No previous knowledge of Mussar or reading required for this class. Registrants will receive a Zoom link one hour before the event.

In light of the current crisis and how everyone is feeling the impact of the Coronavirus in our personal lives and community, Dr. Alan Morinis, founder and director of the Mussar Institute and author of “Everyday Holiness,” will talk about “Mussar in a Time of Crisis: Pandemic Then and Now.” He will share spiritual perspectives on the current situation, emphasizing practical things we can and must do to confront the challenges before us right now, and the lessons we can learn from Jewish history and our ancestors who survived many pandemics. This is a single, interactive class via Zoom, with no knowledge of Mussar or reading required. If it goes well, we may add another with Dr. Morinis, so tell your friends, synagogue, rabbi/faith leaders!
Dr. Alan Morinis, also a filmmaker, Rhodes Scholar, anthropologist, and Founder of The Mussar Institute, is widely considered to be the leading figure in the contemporary revival of the Mussar movement, a 1,100-year-old authentic Jewish personal and communal spiritual tradition that was nearly lost following the Holocaust.
