More on MY FATHER’S SECRETS (Les secrets de mon père)
Véra Belmont | Animated Documentary | France, Belgium | 2022 | English | 74m | PG
Based on the autobiographical graphic novel “Second Generation” by Israeli author and renowned cartoonist Michel Kichka, MY FATHER’S SECRETS is a funny, intimate, and poignant story that tackles trauma, triumph, and redemption. At age 20, Michel’s father, Henri (voiced by legendary actor Elliott Gould), returned to his native Belgium, married, and fathered four children. Given his silent and discreet nature, which revealed nothing of his survival at Auschwitz, his family must try to understand their father’s mysterious past and forge their own independent future. Encapsulating humanity’s weighty history and paths toward healing, director Véra Belmont takes a leap from live-action cinema to animation to tell a Holocaust story with the aid of lead producer Marc Jousset, artistic director of the Oscar-nominated PERSEPOLIS.
