Virtual Cooking Demo + Cookbook Talk
Shannon Sarna, “Modern Jewish Comfort Food”

Shannon Sarna, founding editor of popular Jewish food website, “The Nosher,” joins us for a virtual author talk and cooking demonstration. She’ll discuss her new cookbook, “Modern Jewish Comfort Food: 100 Fresh Recipes for Classic Dishes from Kugel to Kreplach,” and demonstrate a delicious dessert that’s perfect for Sukkot: Israeli swirl cookies.

Comfort food varies from person to person, family to family, region to region, and Sarna has always wanted to tell the story of the Jewish people through food. Known as “the queen of challah” for her nontraditional recipes, in “Modern Jewish Comfort Food,” Sarna showcases recipes and “modern” variations that have shaped Jewish cuisine from around the world―including immigration waves from Europe, the Middle East, North Africa, New York City, and beyond. Her recipes aim to inspire home cooks to connect to Jewish foodways and explore the history of this diverse cuisine. “Modern Jewish Comfort Food” features many classic recipes and sweets to complete your holiday dessert table.

What’s Cooking?  Israeli swirl cookies are all the rage in Israel right now, and, like rugelach or Sephardic mamoul cookies, they can be made with different fillings such as Nutella or dates. Download the recipe >>
