Join us as local author and activist, Harriet Mendels, takes us from Holland to Hoboken, NJ in May of 1939. Through slides and stories, we will learn about her life as a non-English speaking child in America and how Harriet’s family—her parents, brother and two aunts, escaped the Netherlands exactly one year before the German invasion.
Speaker: Harriet Mendels.
Harriet is a mother and grandmother and has been a teacher, activist, local politician, and author. In 2018, aware of rising Holocaust denial, she decided to tell her story, and worked with the Holocaust Center to research her family history more in depth to become a member of the Center’s Speakers Bureau. This talk is offered in partnership with the Holocaust Center for Humanity, Stroum Jewish Community Center, and the Osher Lifelong Learning Institute at the University of Washington.
The Osher at the J program series is sponsored by The Summit, A Kline Galland Community.
