Fall 2016 classes run Monday, September 12, through Wednesday, December 14.
Winter 2017 classes run Tuesday, January 3, through Sunday, April 9.

The J offers a variety of after school classes to keep your kids’ minds and bodies engaged. From cooking to dance to sports, there’s bound to be a class your kids will enjoy. Looking for more? Try our award-winning swim lessons.

Winter 2017 Classes

Game Design

Mondays, 4:30-5:30 p.m.
Ages 5-12

Program your own video game! Kids will learn basic programming, game design, and logic skills as they work with Microsoft’s Kodu: Game Lab to create their own space-themed video game. By combining elements from games such as Asteroids, Missile Command, and Space Invaders, we will make a unique video game that students will create from scratch and also get to play! Kids create 3D maps, environments, characters, unique game features, enemies, and boss challenges. Everyone will get plenty of hands-on time to simulate how developers work. No previous game design experience required.

Bubbie's Kitchen

Tuesdays, 4:30-5:30 p.m.

Join us as we make the recipes so many of us fell in love with growing up. From the classic boiled Brooklyn bagel to a square potato knish from your favorite deli your kids will make it! We will learn proper food chopping techniques, make dough from scratc,h and maybe even bring the parents some homemade half sour pickles.  Each recipe that your child goes home with comes with a story from the Markowitz family of New York as told by their chef de cuisine!

NEW! Passion for Fashion

Thursday, 4:30-5:30 p.m.
Ages 5-10

Dream of being a fashion designer? Love clothes and being creative? The Passion for Fashion course will take students through different processes of fashion design. Led by designer Miriam Reynolds Rigby, kids will get hands-on experience with color and fabrics, creating inspiration boards, sketching, hand sewing techniques, and more!
