Junior Lifeguards

Grades 4-10
This one-week camp provides kids with instruction on pool and beach first aid and safety and CPR and First Aid certification. Junior lifeguards will learn proper guarding technique and communication strategies. Senior lifeguards will teach campers to use rescue equipment. This camp takes pride in offering a variety of challenging activities in a fun atmosphere. Trips to local pools and beaches are included in the schedule.

Arts and Beyond

Explore the magic of art and clay projects. Kids will learn step-by-step basic building techniques for creating an abundance of art treasures. We will make decorative functional and non-functional objects while adding playful elements. We will explore fun art projects like tie dye, paper machè, watercolor, candle making, and may even take a trip to Bellevue Art Museum, Pottery Place, or Creation Station.

Loving art and can't get enough? Then get out of the house and join the SJCC as it partners with Discovery Art Studio for a week-long art party. We're exploring crafty ideas and materials for drawing, painting, sculpting, handmade crafts, and more. Each day will begin with a guided step-by-step drawing or painting lesson based on a variety of themes including animals, landscapes, still life, architecture, and more. We'll take a lunch break and a quick afternoon swim. Then we'll dive right into a three-dimensional craft project for the rest of the day. We'll have an art show at 3 p.m. on Friday where family and friends are invited. Artwork will be ready to take home at that time.

Capture the world on film. Learn about the beginning techniques of photography from a professional photographer. We'll discuss lighting, framing and how to capture a good picture. We'll even go on take pictures at the zoo. Participants must provide their own ready-to-load film camera or digital cameras on the first day of class. Film and developing is provided for film cameras.

Want to learn fundamentals of electronics in a fun experiential way? We'll start working on excellent projects immediately. Build circuits first, then learn the theory behind them. You'll learn all of the basic components and important principles through a series of "learn by discovery" experiments. You don't need to know a thing about electricity to get started. Create a car alarm, holiday lights and wearable electronic jewelry. Turn it on!

What makes engines work? We'll explore the internal parts of engines and learn about engine sizes, compression ratios, crankshafts, timing, and sparks! We'll tear down and rebuild an engine, use diagnostic tools and see if we can make a 40 mile per hour lawnmower. Come join us for this hands-on fun, fun, fun class! Girls welcome!

Rockets

Build and fly your own rockets right here at SJCC Summer Camp. Learn about latitude, longitude, GPS, orbits, and high-tech treasure hunting. We'll spend the day exploring rocketry and building and launching our own water and compressed air rockets to heights of 200 feet. Then we'll use GPS to hide and find our own treasures.

Robotics

Learn to build and use robots, from learning basic principles to constructing fully autonomous robots and completing design challenges from the first Lego League competition. Using curriculum designed at Carnegie Mellon University, this class will appeal to those who like to build, design and program.
