Meet the author: Henriette Mendels
Local author Henriette Mendels, also known as Harriet Weiss,
will lead a discussion of her book, Intermezzo for Solo Viola. Books, which are
free of charge with a donation to the Anne
Frank Center
in New York City,
will be available at all events sponsored by the Active Seniors Club prior

tumultuous years right after World War Two, the novel explores how racial
and cultural differences both unite and divide the residents, and how they
must cope or be destroyed while living in the greatest city in the

Please join us as we look back at this past year, look ahead
to the future, and thank our outgoing Board members, and welcome our incoming
Board members. Rusty Federman will take the helm as SJCC Board President,
accepting the gavel from Lindsey Schwartz who will officially become our Past
President. Our short program will also include the presentation of
service awards to deserving volunteers and recognizing SJCC staff on their
special employment milestones. Light
refreshments will be served.
There is no charge to attend, but for security reasons all
guests must be pre-registered.

Please join us for a special performance by Louie Richmond, founder of the Northwest Chamber Orchestra and former cellist of the National symphony orchestra, accompanied by Judith Gordon on the piano.
Richmond plays every Monday afternoon for the residents at the Kline Galland Home and he also plays twice a month for the Wallingford Food Bank Program. Gordon and Richmond also give regulars concerts at The Summit for the residents and invited guests.
Louie Richmond - Richmond studied cello with Orlando Cole, attended the Eastman School of Music, and received a Masters Degree In Cello Performance from Temple University studying with Lorne Monroe. He was a member of the National Symphony in Washington, D.C. Richmond came to the Northwest to teach cello and chamber music at the University of Puget Sound and was the founder and Musical Director of the Northwest Chamber Orchestra for seven years.
A special thank you to Betty Ann, Louie's wife, for her support and encouragement.
Betty Ann has always been deeply involved with the JCC, was the Director of Early Childhood Services in the late 70’s and early 80’s and she is a Therapist in Private Practice in Seattle.
Judith Gordon – Like her mother Dorothy, who lived at The
Summit from November 2007-April 2008, Judith is an enthusiastic amateur
musician. She studied piano starting at age 8, and played violin and viola at
the High School of Music and Art in New York City. After several decades away
from music she began playing piano again and now studies with Jane Harty of
Music Northwest in Seattle.
She has attended Music Northwest Chamber Music Camp for 3 years. Judith
practices psychology when she is not playing music. Coffee,tea and refreshments served, cost $1
members, $2 non members.

Yisrael Campbell started his life as Chris Campbell, the son of an ex-nun and a Catholic schoolteacher. Three conversions to Judaism later (first Reform, then Conservative, then Orthodox), Campbell discovered his Jewish soul in stand-up comedy. His revealing documentary has been screened at more than 50 film festivals across the U.S., Canada, the U.K., and Australia.
