Each year, MIPA honors a teacher, assistant, or administrator with the Exceptional Educator Award. The award is presented to an individual who has made extraordinary contributions to our preschool community. Teacher Laura, as so many children and families know her, has taught preschool for more than 20 years and has been at ECS since 1995 – and we’re so lucky to have her.
MIPA received passionate and remarkable nomination letters from both parents and colleagues. The letters described the positive impact Teacher Laura has had on the families, children, and workplace of the J’s Early Childhood School. Laura is a respectful, knowledgeable, innovative, and caring teacher.
One parent wrote, “Laura’s passion for early childhood education and the belief that children are capable learners with the ability to take on responsibility and tackle hard problems has allowed the children in the class to mature and feel confident far beyond what I, even as an educator myself, would expect from two- to three-year-olds.” Another person remarked, “She’s so good, I worry we’ll never have a teacher we like as much and will always be a tad bit disappointed.”
On Friday, May 13, Laura was surprised by ECS children, parents, colleagues, and MIPA Board members that had gathered to celebrate her big achievement. The award was presented by MIPA Vice Presidents Jessica Apodaca and Amanda Colburn (pictured above with Laura, center).
